My New Blog

Those of you who love visiting my blog...I have created a new blog @ wondersofwhimsy.blogspot.com. I will be using this blog address for my dolls and paintings. I will be keeping this blog going, maybe indefinately for photography and fiber arts, so you can still visit that site as well. I may not be bloggin on both daily, but I should be at least on one, so it will depend on what I am working on and if I have dolls to share.

Thanks again Tonya, for her gorgeous banner and coming up with this name. Isn't she talented?
I hope you come visit me at my new blog, often. I am hoping to enjoy all your company for years to come! I love you all!

Baylie Batt

Wow, I am finished with her. Her name means "Courtyard within the castle walls." Which I thought was really interesting. I love how she turned out. She is actually quite glamorous. I could not wait till this weekend to share her with you. I will be listing her, with her other halloween friends, hopefully by Friday or Saturday.

I like this pattern, from Back Porch Pickins, so much that I think I am going to make a witch out of her! She is the perfect size. I am still waiting on all sorts of patterns that I ordered, so I am soo looking forward to that. I even order more fabric...UHOH. I found some cool rustic fabric that I just had to have, cuz I ordered a really prim raggedy pattern I want to make! Fun!

I will have to share when I get all my goods! I got to get back to work on my two other halloween items I am working on, so have a glorious day (it is almost 80 degrees here in Denver!) HOT!

What Jennifer Means

I was reading an old blog from a friend, Pea and decided to pull this up on http://www.blogthings.com/whatsyournameshiddenmeaningquiz/

You are fair, honest, and logical. You are a natural leader, and people respect you.You never give up, and you will succeed... even if it takes you a hundred tries. You are rational enough to see every part of a problem. You are great at giving other people advice. You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone. You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together. At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.

You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people. You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts. You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals. You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing. You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly.

You don't stick with any one thing for very long. You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start. You are loving, compassionate, and ruled by your feelings. You are able to be a foundation for other people... but you still know how to have fun.Sometimes your emotions weigh you down, but you generally feel free from them.

You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something. You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense. You definitely are a handful, and you're likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun.

Well, Iwould say most of this is true. I think I have toned down the wild and crazy...lol But, if you knew me in my teens and twenties...Party Girl!

I feel normal again!

Nothing new in my house. It is kinda messy cuz I have had a headache for 2 days and I never feel like doing anything with one. We'll today I feel better, still a stiff neck, but I'd take that over the head ache anyday. I had class today and it was fun I learned how to draw and make some cool lettering. The weather here is incredible, again! Yes, Colorado to most is cold and snowy...NOT SO. Sunny 300 days a year and blue skies! It is 70 degrees, the lawns are turning green and the flowers are starting to bloom! I have alot of planting to do in my court yart, cuz lots of my moss did not come back this year. It is well worth it though and when it is summer I will share it with you.

Hey look at the panda nodder, Tonya..I did receive more supplies in the mail. Nothing exciting, but to me they are all exciting, cuz I imagine what I can make from it! I remember how downting it was for me when I first started (well I still am first starting) but I was like where do I get all these cool supplies that everyone is using? With a lot of help from my friends and some searching on my own, I have finally gotten about everything I need! FFFEEEWWW!

Time to celebrate! So, now that I have waisted two days. I should get my bum in gear: put some laundry away, do some dishes and make some dollies! Maybe not in that order...heeeheee.

The Cuddly Baron

Goodmorning all. It is actually, good afternoon. I had to stay in bed 1/2 the morning. I got my "what seems like" my monthy head ache. I tried drugs and massaging my neck and nope not gone yet. I can't do a darn thing with it, either. Just a pain in my neck, literally! I did try to start my next doll, she is coming along very slowly.
Here is a picture of Baron Von Marsell. My nieghbors little rotty. I have been in charge of his potty breaks since he was a pup (while they are at work) He is about the size of my dog, now. He gets bigger, literally everyday. I had to bring him over to visit, yesterday. He seemed so bored just sittin in his crate, so I thought I'd bring him over a bit. He loved Gin's squirel!

My Shadow kitty did not like him, he is stubburn and won't back down. Fearless! She is used to being queen of her domain. Here's the kitty trying to keep away, by sitting on the grill.

It has been gorgeous out, lately. So, I think the snow is finished for the season. Felix, the old kitty that decided to call our home his retirement pad is hanging outside as well. He is not going outside to wonder the hood like he used to. I think he's got it made at our place and would rather just chill with us.
Well, I am gonna get going and do some stretches. Maybe that'll help, so I can get working on my new doll. Have a glorious day!

My Business Name - Vacillating

Now, about my potential new business name. I have had some comments on the word primitive and my art being Whimsical (not really primitive) and it was suggested that I just keep ART BY JENNY. I am not sure if my current "Art by Jenny" would be sufficient. I sorta felt that it was too broad, but I do a lot of different art. I registered a web address called "FLOWER BOUTIQUE ART GALLERY" a few months ago, but that was before I started the folk art dolls. So, my delima is this... Is one place sufficient for all my art needs? Honestly, I am having a difficult time deciding what is right. I have nothing to compare it to. If I have a general website with links to all my different art, will that inhibit my popularity as a folk artist or not? Since I already bought the web address should I use it and put Art by Jenny on my main page with links to the different things I sell? Of course it will be a while before I get that running, anyway. I gotta make money first, right? i am normally very decisive, so I am sort of confusing myself. Your comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks all for putting up with me.

User Error!

Well, I spent part of my morning trying to re-configure my wireless router. To find out I accidentally turned it off from my laptop. DUH, at least I did not have my repair man come out. That would have been embarrassing.

Here are the pictures of some trees in my neighborhood. I love this time of year. I wish the trees would stay like this longer. I planted 3 crabapple trees in my parkway, but they will bloom a little later in the season.

Pea wanted me to share some of my fabric. This is only about 1/4 of all that I ordered. Tonya, you might notice a pattern here that you have. Plus, I got my mohair. I already changed the hair on those dollies, already. My girlfriend just came over with her new adopted son from Korea while I was in the middle of this blog. He was still on Asia time, so she was trying to keep him up. He was such a sweetie and he loved me. I was throwing him in the air...what a giggle box. Well, it is definatley time to get some things done, today. I have a long list. I replaced the pictures of the dolls I was working on from the previous posts, if you want to check out their new hair do's. Otherwise, as soon as I am finished I will post them before I get them loaded on ebay.

I hope everyone is having a great Monday!

Rockies baseball

This photo was taken last season, during the playoffs, with Dave's cousin. Now, I am not a sports fan, by any means, but I do love to go to live events for the social scene, beer and hot dogs. Football games I avoid, because you always got belligerent drunk people either in front or behind you fighting and lots of spilled beer. Not my cup of tea. Baseball games are more of a family affair. You'll rarely ever deal with that, there.

I want to get some pictures of the flowering trees in our neighborhood this afternoon, when I take our dog for a walk. So, I will share them with you all, later. This blog has inspired me to start taking more photo's. Mostly, because I know I will be running out of things to share. LOL Soon, I will get to go to the Botanic Gardens to add to my digital photography. I missed going last year. I am excited about it, actually. I love flowers!

For now, well I am not doing much, really. I should get to the craft store. I am not motivated to do that, yet. It is so nice out. I just want to hang around!

Have a fun day, everyone!

Back country dog

This picture was taken on top of a mountain on the west side of Colorado near Grand Junction, called the flat tops. It was the first time I took her on a camping trip, let alone on a day hike. This picture was near the top stretch. Where we walked across a mountain ledge that was just about 5 feet wide and drops on both sides, scary. The weather was wierd that high up (about 12,000 feet at least) One minute sunny, then a bit of rain, then back to sunny..

You know what, I didn't get anything done today. Some of my supplies have been tied up, so I do not expect them for maybe two weeks now. I am kind of upset about it a bit, but I hope I can figure out what I will do with what I do have.

Kissing Sheep

I gotta get some work done today. So, I will keep this brief. This picture is so cute. It is my nephew Domonic. Yes, I made him kiss the sheep. Aunt Jenny took all the neices and nephews to the county fair last year, when I was visiting Ohio for my 20 year reunion. YES 20 year High School reunion. SO, now you probably can guess my age. HEEHEE. This sheep is actually very pretty, huh? I love animals.

Knights In Shining Armour

Can you believe that we actually wore these? Those poor horses! I thought this was a really neat display at the Met in New York. This was one of my favorite time periods. Anyway, I thought it was a cool picture to share, today. I am kind of overwhelmed by all that I learned today. Now Ihave to upgrade my version of Illustrator to CS3.

I was going to work on my dolls, since my honey is working late, but I just cannot get going. I am kind of pooped from staring at a computer all day. I'll have plenty of time tomorrow. I was so bad tonight. I had cookies and cream ice cream for dinner! OMG. That's probably why I am sooo tired, right now. LMAO.

Cherry Blossoms in Japan

Hiroshi, my friend from Japan took this photo.

Not much happening today. I started a new doll, my first angel. I ran out of stuffing, right in the middle of the doll, so I had to (once again) run to the craft store. I am waiting for some supplies I ordered on line for the Americana doll, before I finish her. She is almost done. I just want to make her crown really special with glitter and stuff.

I bought so much stuff for doll making yesterday, on the net...I am really excited about all the material I bought. I may make a couple more Americana dolls, then guess what...It is time to make halloween stuff! I hate to say it, but it is my favorite time of year. Fall, that is. I do love to play dress up and decorate, too! I am from Ohio and the leaves are spectacular there. Colorado has a brief period where the aspens are gorgeous, but you have to go up to the mountains to check them out.

Anyway, I have a class tomorrow. Lasting most of the day, so I may not be working on any dolls or blogging. Booh Hoo, right?

Fabric Fiasco

So much for living in a big city. I went to Denver Fabrics, yesterday, to pick up some osnaburg for my dollies. I was hoping to pick up some pretty quilter's fabric, but they did not have any. I was totally not impressed by what little they did have. Granted they do have a nice upholstery section, but this is all I bought!

Does anyone know where I can get cool fabric online? I found one site with somecute Americana fabrics, but that was about it. I love pinks and flower prints. So, please let me know.

E for Excellent

I received an award today from my friend Tonya from Back Porch Pickins. Thanks so much, Tonya. A couple of the ladies you passed it on to would be on my list as well... Allegany Annies Annie's a really talented photographer and doll maker...I love looking at both and I enjoy her country living...sounds fun. The Crackling Crows Ivonne, even though her site is really new, I still check it almost daily to see what's up! And of course back to you Back Porch Pickins Tonya. She has made my day, everyday, with lovely dolls and inspirational conversations and just being a great lady to communicate with! Thanks for keeping me less lonely at home. No need to pass it on ladies. I just want you to know I really enjoy checking your blogs out. I also I want to give this award to Pea Pickers Primivites. Pea, thanks for all the wonderful comments on my blog. I really enjoy her blog, to! Last but not least, Sam I Am Creations. I really enjoy Sandy's travel pictures and I love her little Tippy.

Poetry

My sister in law, the mother of my rocker nephew, is a poet. She has not published a book, yet, but I am trying to work with her to illustrate a children's book. Here is a peek. Isn't it cute?

BEES

Beesting- OUCH!, why does it bite so hard,
Beesting- OUCH!, that feels like a glass shard.
Now I'm going to swell and get all red,
And wish I would have stayed in bed.
I want to ask you, Mr. Bumble Bee,
Why do you want to sting me?
I didn't do anything to you,
I didn't even try to swat with my shoe.
You hurt me and I want you to know,
I could've done without that hurt, so...
Please go away from here,
There's some lovely flowers over there.
Go make honey or whatever you do,
And I'll try to stay away from you.

My Nephew -- The Rock Star

Check out my nephews band photo. I have heard a basement recording of them (on myspace)and well, it was just a bunch of screeming to me...lol They are total mosh pit rockers, I guess. I just thought I would share. He is only 15 years old. It is so neat! "Pray for Plagues" interesting. Kind of a demented name. Kids these days, right? Anyway, he is the boy on the far right. With the long curly hair. He doesn't care for school all that much (I never did either) but at least he is doing something, right? He has dreams, that is all that counts. I really wish the best for him.

SNOW IN APRIL

Yep, I live in Colorado! The flowers that came up, a few weeks ago, are not happy right now. Maybe this will be the last storm of the season. I am not entirely sad about it cuz skiing is going to be great tomorrow! YIPPY. It is the last weekend this ski season, so I hope it won't be too busy. We never go on the weekends. Traffic is just horrible then.

Here's what I woke up to....This is a picture from my window in my office. The little victorian, in the middle (behind the big tree) was a renovation I did back in 2003. That was one of my best projects. It is really adorable. I painted the exterior myself (except I hired someone to do my ladder work) That porch turned out really cute!

I was adamant about the look I wanted. I really wanted it to be "gingerbready" (if that's a word). Well, I took the time and painted it myself and it paid off. I had 3 contracts within 24 hours and ended up making 10k more than market value! HAHA.

It is nice living across the street from it as well. The only thing I would have done differently was put a sprinkler in. I have noticed people do not like taking care of their yards. Living in a somewhat deserty climate it really helps....Sorry Ryan. :)

Shadow was up playing with a ball of paper this morning. She loves to play hocky with it. She definatley is not photogenic. I can never get a good picture of her. She always looks away. I guess I don't blame her for not liking a flash in her eyes..heehee.

I signed up for some classes at the Colorado Free University (no, it is not free.) It is a group that offers all kinds of classes from knitting, dancing, and cooking, to computer programs. My first class is Adobe Illustrator. I have taught myself how to use it, but I am hoping to gain more knowledge to help with drawing with it. I also signed up for Crochetting. I tried to learn once from a friend and well, it did not stick. Unfortunately, they did not offer an advanced knitting course...bumber. I am also excited about a class called "writing and publishing a children's book". Not having kids of my own has hindered my writing ability on that end. What does a 3 year old read? I keep thinking about "The Cat in the Hat". A bit of simple poetry and big colorful pictures, right?

It's break time

I was walking around taking pictures of the house... yeah I know, I guess I get bored all by myself!
Don't you just love those light fixtures? They are so elegant. This is our kitchen. The cabinets were custom made. It was fun actually drawing out my kitchen and having someone make it. Although, it was a lot of work getting the guy to get it finished by the time we moved in.

This coffee maker is the best, even better than Starbucks. He did his research on how to froth them the right way...funny.

MY NEWEST ITEM...........

Look what just arrived. These doll chairs are really cute. I thought about using them for my doll collection, but they are too pretty to put anything on them.

You can tell I am bored, I am adding more pictures of my home. I need to travel or something, huh?

I love this painting, another e-bay purchase. I am a rooster (chinese horoscope) so, I just had to add it to my collection.

I am a Virgo as well, those of you who know what that means...well, it is probably the closest to the Rooster...so YICKES!!!

Just for fun...

The Rooster is the strutting peacock of the Chinese Zodiac! These quick thinkers are practical and resourceful, preferring to stick to what is tried and true rather than taking messy, unnecessary risks. Roosters are keenly observant. It's hard to slip anything past a Rooster, since they seem to have eyes in the backs of their heads! This quality can lead others to think the Rooster is psychic, but that's not generally the case; instead, this Sign enjoys a keen attention to detail that makes it a whiz at anything requiring close analysis. Roosters make great lawyers, brain surgeons and accountants, to name a few of this Sign's possible occupations. Above all else, the Rooster is very straightforward and rewards others' honesty in kind.
Roosters aren't shifty or cagey and have no interest in hiding behind a facade. They are the proverbial open book, telling the truth and keeping their word. If you show your hand, the Rooster will respect you for it. This kind of trusting behavior can tempt tricksters to pull a fast one on the Rooster, but that would be a bad move! Remember, this Sign doesn't indulge in flights of fancy and keeps those eyes wide open at all times.
Roosters tend to be perfectionists and expect to be in control, especially over their appearance. Primping and posing for the Rooster can go on forever! Being noticed and admired is an aphrodisiac for Roosters, and they can go a long time on a few kind words. Roosters also adore being out on the town, especially if they're in the company of adoring friends. The Rooster will also be the best-dressed one of the bunch -- style counts with this Sign, regardless of the cost.
Roosters also expect to be in control of their surroundings, including whoever happens to be in those surroundings. Roosters keep an impeccably neat house and expect their lovers, housemates and family members to maintain the same high standards of dress and conduct as they do. This can cause problems with other, more relaxed types who just want to be accepted as is. The Rooster needs the right partner, one who understands this Sign's basically conservative nature. With the right person, the Rooster can be the most loyal, trusting and supportive mate around, one who bends over backward to please its loved ones. Some Signs may just end up feeling hen-pecked, however.
Roosters need to learn to value their heart and soul as much as their good looks. Their excellent people skills and sharp minds are qualities that others will appreciate as much as a pretty face. This Sign would also do well to learn to adopt the philosophy of live and let live; perhaps an appeal to the Rooster's logic -- that it's inefficient to waste time nagging others -- will help this Sign learn to let others be whomever and however they are.

It's Wednesday?!

Well, I am getting back to work, today. I have 4 paintings that I started. Hopefully, I will finish them by Friday.

I started my little americana doll. She is pictured here with "Lucky Star". This doll will be the listed with two other dolls that I was intending to make for my Americana series.

I have to get to the fabric store for one last thing before making them. I love this star fabric and am going to use it for the dress of my other doll.

I am not sure, yet, if I will included one kitty and one girly doll. Like I did with the birthday series.

I loved the birthday cake that I made for that one. It was pretty fun to make to. I need to think of something to needle felt for this one.

It feels like Thursday, today. I don't know why. The sun is trying to come out. At least it is not as yucky out as the weather man predicted. I hope it is warm and sunny where you are.

Spring is running a little late

Wow, what a lazy butt I've been today. I am still in my pj's beleive it on not. Just hanging out in the library, watching a movie. Shadow boo decided to nap on my lap and I did not want to disturb her :) I suppose it is time to get myself in gear. I wanted to organize the closet in my office today. So, I guess I should stop putting it off.

I won Jordon's "Miss Libb" on ebay last night. I cannot wait to get that pretty package in the mail. Other than that, there's not much exciting in my part of the world.

It actually snowed, for a little while, today. The forecast calls for pretty yucky weather, all week. At least we'll get a chance for another ski day. I think Vail got hammered yesterday! SWEET.

TOO CUTE! Jordan, this is fabulous!

I had to add this cutie to my blog. I am bidding on it on ebay. The auction ends this Sunday. I hope I get her. This will probably be my last prim doll purchase for quite a while. I just do not have anymore room! The creator of this cutie is 12 year old, Jordan. His momma is Back Porch Pickens, Tonya. The quality of workmanship is awesome. I hope he keeps it up.

I have thought about selling some of my older prim collection. Some of the pieces I have had for a while I have put away to make room for the really nice ones. (Not that they are not nice) I just have some of my favorites. I may be adding these, periodically, to E-bay, incase anyone is interested.

I cannot believe I am still not finished with this...

Here is another upholstered chair that I started, oh...back in 2006! I still have to finish blind stitching the arms. You can see the curved needle still sticking in the side. I love the material I selected for this. It was my first attempt at a somewhat shabby chique look. This chair sits in my guest room, so it never really gets any company. I do have plenty of dolls in there, though. Which I have tried to show in these pictures. I doubt I will be creating anymore chairs. My 3,000 square foot home is full at this point. I would have to have a pretty big shop to start working on furniture for others.

This dresser I got out of a home that we renovated. Those of you with little girls may recognize it as a set that was popular a while back. It was originally a cream color. I painted it black and added gold accents around the detailing and handles, to try to give it a slightly more mature look. I like it. Escpecailly because it was FREE :) Most of the other furniture I have acquired is quite expensive, so this little thing is very special to me. I get compliments on that mirror all the time, too....and of course, there is a doll sitting on it. I hope you enjoy the little tours of my home that I like to add every once in a while.

Kitty Doll

I listed this on ebay two weeks ago, but it did not sell. The nice woman that purchased my other doll at the time requested this one as well, so here goes. You can find Monica the cute little kitty on ebay today.
Honestly, she was almost too cute to give up. If I keep her then I definately won't have room to buy from my favorite artists, though. "I do not make art to keep. I want others to enjoy her. "
I am still a "starving" artist, but thank god for my success in Interior Design & Real Estate, right? If I can sell my art, jeez for at least a little, maybe I will keep bringing new things. I will get better with practice.
My friend, Jane, at Gritty Arts Studio has been painting her lovely Angels for years...I mean a long time! She said if I keep working at it, I will look back and be amazed at my first paintings and dollies.
This is my very first year at this folk art/whimsical style. It is fun and I have so much inspiration from just sitting at my desk.

Thanks to everyone who has encouraged me and especially those who have purchased my art. I greatly appreciate it!

Little Sheep Painting

I was not sure if I was going to put this little painting on my blog, but since the little bunny painting sold, I thought why not. This little "spring sheep" is the bunny's friend. They match each other perfectly. She will be listed on ETSY this morning for a wopping $6.50. It was painted with acrylic on 5x7 canvas board. She fits in a frame and would look perfect in a child's room. I hope you like her.

My Cozy Knitting Spot!

Well, I was supposed to re-list another kitty doll today, but instead I went skiing. It was probably the best day so far this ski season. No lines, hardly anyone on the mountain and the snow was groomed (which I don't mind.) We skied for four hours straight. My legs are spent.

I started knitting again on the ride up the mountain. I was wanting to wait to learn something new, but this fancy book I bought really did not have clear directions on a blind cast on...hmmm. Even the ladies at the knit shop could not tell me how to do it. I was bumbed.

So, I guess I'll have to pick another pattern to use. I really want to teach myself all the fancy stitches so that I can start designing my own sweaters and such. That will be so much fun, especially with my own Alpaca some day. I will be spinning my own yarn, at least for the first couple years. After about 50 or more Alpaca's...I am sure I won't be able to keep up. My intention is to offer really fun/funky yarn.

I did not know what picture to add to this blog, then I ran into the picture of my red velvet couch (that is in my glorious office.) This couch is the middle section of a huge "sectional" I purchased for our family room. The original material was a hideous gold. So, I designed this custom slip cover to match my office & picked other fabric for the rest. Anyway, this is where I knit. I have a perfect view of my doll collection. I also have that other floral chair with the teddy I featured in an earlier blog next to it. Incase, my girlfriends want to come over and knit or just hang out in my room.

Eventually, I am going to run out of interior pictures, but they're all designed by me and I consider them art...so, I like to share.

Happy Cat

Well, here goes. I am putting "happy" on ETSY for 24.95, which is a deal because she took me days to make. She is number two on my doll making attempts. So, I hope someone likes her.

I took out my canvas today, so maybe I will have a new painting to add tomorrow. I got my painting dids on!

For those of you who prayed for my real estate sales. Yeah, we closed on the contemporary duplex yesterday! It was such a blessing to sell it to this couple. (They weren't even looking, but they loved my design so much..they had to have it!) It is too bad it is risky business, otherwise I would say I should stick with it. Those of you who really know my hopes and dreams, you all know I want to have an Alpaca Ranch! We'll continue to work in the real estate field, but maybe help other ranchers get their homes & barns built, instead of working in the BIG CITY!

P.S. For all you doll makers out there, I will be selling fine fiber for your dollies hair by next year.
